The Little Bighorn battle was easily the worst defeat ever sustained by the U.S. Army in Plains Indian warfare with the 7th Cavalry suffering 268 killed or dying of wounds, and 60 wounded and the Sioux suffering many casualties. The news shocked the nation and gave rise to an endless debate about the facts, strategy and tactics of the battle which continues to the present day.

The Little Bighorn Battlefield is also a National Cemetery where over 5,000 are buried.

The museum has some great paintings and many excellent diagrams of the battle. This stop is one of the most historic you can make on your tour of the Rocky Mountain States in your Sport Utility Vehicle.
