Pickup with Extended Cab If you have a 4wd pick-up or extended cab pick-up, there will be little room in the cab for even a small sweater box filled with the handy things we will be suggesting you pack. A good solution for this problem is to install a contractors type tool box just behind the cab (top photo, red arrow). They are indispensable for hauling sports equipment around town and camping equipment off the road.

The bottom photograph shows an all aluminum "gull wing" model with lids that open from either side of the vehicle for easy access to the contents. Boxes like these bolt to the pick-up rails from the inside and can be easily removed in about 5 minutes in case you want to mount a camper to the pick-up. Most provide sturdy locks so that your gear is protected when you are away from the vehicle.
