Topic: Spare Tire Carrier
Previous TopicNext TopicHelp
Some sports utility vehicles come standard with a rear tire carrier and one can be added as an accessory to most (as long as the rear doors can still open with one attached). If you are going to do some long distance or extended off road travel, a second spare tire might be useful and this is a good way to mount it.

The spare tire carrier on the jeep in the bottom photograph has two nice additional features. First, there are mounting stations for two 5 gallon cans of gasoline (blue arrows on either side of tire). If you need to carry extra fuel along, this is the best way to carry it outside the vehicle. NOTE: do not carry gasoline inside your SUV.

Also shown in on this particular rack is a cargo carrier (white arrow). This is handy for packing items that will not fit inside, or are not appropriate to store inside, your SUV (greasy or very dirty stuff for example).
