Topic: Altimeter for the inside of your SUV
Previous TopicNext TopicHelp
An altimeter is a useful addition to your sport utility vehicle. It will tell you the elevation (above sea level) of your current location. The one shown here is about 3 inches square and can be mounted to any flat surface on your dash.

These are useful instruments in the winter months if you drive in snow country. If the news has just said "rain in the valley tonight turning to snow above 4,000 feet", you will know when you are about to travel into snowy weather.

These altimeters need to be adjusted now and then to assure they are reading accurately. They work on barometric pressure and that pressure differs from place to place and it differs based on the weather. Get in the habit of resetting the elevation as you pass elevation signs along the highway. You do not need to adjust them constantly, just once or twice per day when their readings are important to you.
