Topic: Winches
Previous TopicNext TopicHelp
A winch is a useful addition to your sport utility vehicle or 4wd pick up truck if you are going to do serious off road travel or if you need it for your work. Almost all winches are electric and mount on the front of the vehicle. They usually come with 100 to 200 ft. of cable strong enough to pull heavy vehicles.

Some winch installations are done by attaching a mounting bracket to the front of the vehicle that will accommodate the winch. Many other winch installations are done by replacing the stock bumper on the vehicle with one made to accommodate a winch. If you replace the bumper on your SUV, be aware that most newer SUV's have detectors installed behind the front bumper to activate the air bags in a frontal collision. Assure that any replacement bumper you purchase has provisions for the air bag deployment on your particular vehicle (if it applies).
