Topic: River and Stream Crossing Equipment
Previous TopicNext TopicHelpWeb
Anytime you cross a river or stream, no mater how big or how small, you should have some special equipment in your SUV.

Refer to the photo at the top. At a minimum, carry two 20 to 50 ft. length cables (blue arrows) and a come-along (red arrow). These items will allow you to get out of most small streams. Be sure to include the necessary end hooks for the cables so that they may be attached at both ends.

For larger streams and rivers, a built in winch like the one shown in the bottom photograph is more preferable. It has 100-200 ft. of cable and a powerful motor to help pull your SUV out. An on-board winch is a really good idea for getting out of other tough situations and should be considered if you are a serious off-road enthusiast.
