Topic: Check Water Depth Before Crossing in Your SUV
Previous TopicNext TopicHelp
Before you begin to cross any river or stream, you should stop and check it's depth and flow velocity (See DANGER message below). Walk cautiously across the stream to assure the depth is no more than about 1 foot and that there are no sudden holes.

It is always best to cross a stream where there is already a roadbed crossing the stream. It is highly probable that this is the safest place to cross.

DANGER: Never walk into a stream or river if you cannot swim. Never walk into swift moving or deep water! Never walk into a body of water without a companion nearby who can help if you get into trouble. If you cannot gain a confidence about a river or stream crossing without risking your life, find another way around the river! Crossing any stream but the smallest of creeks is not for the novice and can lead to certain death by drowning.
