Topic: It's Easy to Slam Your Fingers in The Doors
Previous TopicNext TopicHelp
It is common to park on slight slopes when driving off the road. Watch that door on the high side and pay particular attention to small children getting in and out of the car on that side.

Note in the photograph at the top that the car is parked on a slope. The passenger has gotten out of the car and left the door open. The door is heavy and gravity wants to push the door in the direction of the red arrow. A disaster is waiting to happen. The passenger walks back up to the car and places a hand on doorjamb (blue arrow in photo at top, red circle in bottom photo) to brace him or herself. Then the door suddenly slams shut with great force due to it's own weight and the force of gravity because the car is parked on a slope. This will really, really hurt !!!

Whenever you park your SUV on a slope where the uphill door could slam shut, get in the habit of never placing your hands in the area shown by the red circle in the bottom photo. Teach your children to place their hands elsewhere as they get in and out of the uphill side of any vehicle.
