Topic: General Travel Maps
Previous TopicNext TopicHelp
General travel maps and street atlases like the Rand McNally Road Atlas are great for around town driving and business travel. They show all the information you will need to get from place to place if you have no interest in points of interest, campgrounds, features of the terrain, etc. (top photo).

Some enhanced general travel maps contain much more information useful to the Sport Utility Vehicle or 4wd pick-up owner. Maps free for members of insurance companies like AAA (bottom photo) show elevations, mountain names, rivers and streams, ranger stations, campgrounds, forested areas (green area on this example), and many points of interest. You can get enhanced maps for regional areas that show much more detail than maps of entire states would show.

For many owners of SUV's enhanced travel maps are adequate for most travel. Assure that the maps you acquire show mountain passes, elevation markings, shading for National Forests and National Parks, campgrounds, and other detail of interest

There are, however, much better maps available for vacation and off road travel. Press the (Next Topic) button above to read more about this subject.
