that cover the area where you are traveling are a basic requirement of
off-road travel or any vacation to an area that you are not familiar
with. It is even more important that you have a basic understanding of
map reading and a good understanding of the various types of maps that
are available to you and how they are used.
Having good maps and knowing how to use them can make all the difference in the world between an exciting, fun adventure and a vacation disaster wrought with frustration and delays. We have all experienced the frustration of getting lost in a big city. Imagine yourself getting lost in a tangle of dozens of dirt roads in one of our National Forests with no gas stations attendants to consult for directions and with no cellular telephone signal!
If you venture off the road, it is very important that you have a good sense of what you are getting into as far as the terrain and types of roads you will encounter are concerned. It is vital that you thoroughly review this section of our training course to assure that you are prepared with good maps and the confidence that you understand how to use them well.
