|Topic: Check the weather before you ever leave the pavement!|
|Observe the weather
conditions around you before you even think of taking your vehicle off
the main highway. Is there an approaching storm? Do the clouds look
threatening? Is it already raining or snowing? Observe which way the
prevailing winds are blowing and then look to see if they are bringing
stormy weather your way.
Sudden downpours will make your off road route muddy and slippery. If you far down a 4 wheel drive trail, you may not be able to get back out the route you came due to muddy and slippery conditions. If you are located at higher elevations, snow may be a significant problem, along with freezing temperatures.
Always be prepared for the worst winter weather if you are traveling during the winter months, even if the weather at the moment looks fine. If you get stuck is a severe storm, you may be all alone out there for quite some time.
