Topic: Check for Skid Plates Under Your SUV
Previous TopicNext TopicHelp
Skid Plate If you never intend to take your SUV off the road, skid plates protecting the oil pan and other vital parts underneath from great big rocks are unnecessary. However, off the road, they can save you a long walk home.

Look under your SUV from the front and see if you can see plates like those shown in the top photo(yellow arrows) bolted over things like the oil pan. If your SUV looks more like the photo on the bottom where the oil pan is visible (red arrow), you need to consider adding skid plates. Skid plates protect the vital parts of your SUV that hang down low and are therefore exposed to the danger of being damaged by running over large rocks.

If you want to add skid plates to your SUV, call your dealer and tell him that you want him to add skid plates to your SUV and schedule a time for the installation. You need to call ahead to assure he will have the parts in stock.
