all of the interior and exterior lighting on your vehicle before you set
out on a trip. Turn on your headlights and then walk around your
vehicle. Check the front head lights, both high and low beams (red arrow
in top photograph). Check the parking lights (yellow arrow in top
photograph). Check the side lights (green arrow in top photograph). Be
sure to check if the rear side lights are working also.
Now find a helper. Start your vehicle with the emergency brake set firmly and with the vehicle transmission in park. Have your helper stand to the side of the vehicle and to the rear. Press the brake pedel. Your helper should see the brake lights come on. Now check your right and then your left turn signals. Verify that your helper sees those working correctly in the rear. While pressing firmly on the brakes, put the vehicle in reverse. Have your helper verify that the backup lights are working (yellow arrow in bottom photograph). Put your transmission back into Park.
Have your helper stand to the side, in front of the vehicle. Now check that the left and right turn signals are working.
Danger: Assure that your vehicle is not going to go backward or forward when you put the transmission in reverse. Assure that the emergency brake is set firmly and that you are pressing the break pedel firmly. You do not want to allow your vehicle to go backward or forward and injure your helper.
