Off road in winter Cooling system components can take a real beating on or off the road in winter or summer. Cooling system malfunctions are probably the most common types of problems that you can encounter with your car and they can completely disable it due to serious engine overheating.

Below freezing temperatures will freeze the water in your radiator if you do not have sufficient anti-freeze, called "Engine Coolant", in your radiator. Serious mechanical damage to your radiator or engine can be the result!

In the summer, your radiator will boil over if there is insufficient water, especially when climbing long hills in hot weather. Severe overheating of your engine will result in costly repairs.
