Topic: Cargo Carriers for the Top of Your SUV
Previous TopicNext TopicHelp
Roof mounted cargo boxes are one of the best ways to carry equipment and gear, summer or winter, on your SUV. They are handy for items used more infrequently, leaving room inside your SUV for more frequently used items. There are many varieties and sizes to choose from and they can even be color coordinated with your particular sport utility vehicle. Several designs are available specifically for carrying skis or snow boards.

We prefer the top mounted cargo box as compared to the receiver hitch mounted cargo boxes (covered in a later web page) unless you are unable to lift things or already have other stuff attached to the top of your SUV. The hitch mounted cargo boxes hang down low enough at the rear of the SUV to be a problem if you are driving off the road. They will drag on the ground if you go through any kind of gully or severe dip in the trail.

Roof mounted cargo boxes do have the problem of being too high for short people. And the larger SUV's make this even more of a problem because they are so tall.
