Door StickerHow Much Weight in Vehicle
The weight your SUV can carry is rated for your specific vehicle. Locate the sticker on the inside of the drivers side door. It will look similar to the one shown above. Note the GVWR, GAWR FRT, and GAWR RR numbers near the top of this sticker. These numbers indicate the following:
  • GVWR means Gross Vehicle Weight Rating and indicates the maximum weight of your vehicle including all loaded items, fuel, and passengers
  • GAWR FRT means Gross Axle Weight Rating, front and indicates the maximum weight allowable on the front axle of your vehicle including all loaded items, fuel, and passengers
  • GAWR RR means Gross Axle Weight Rating, rear and indicates the maximum weight allowable on the rear axle of your vehicle including all loaded items, fuel, and passengers
If you exceed these ratings, one or more of the following things might happen:
  • You will cause serious damage to your vehicle
  • You will have seriously diminished control of your vehicle
  • You will cause a serious accident
  • You will be cited for driving an overloaded vehicle on a public road
  • Your car warrantee will be voided
Always consult this door sticker and the owners manual for your specific vehicle to learn what the weight limits are for your SUV. If you have any doubts about the weight of your load, there are public scales used by truck drivers located at most truck stops. Have your loaded vehicle weighed before you begin your trip.
