|Topic: Around Town Driving|
uses for Sport Utility Vehicles and 4 wheel drive pick up trucks around
town are are so many and so varied that we couldn't possibly show
pictures of all of them here but here are just a few (you may have to
wait a minute or so for all of the pictures to load in the Java applet
in the picture in the middle).
Critics of Sport Utility Vehicles bemoan their large size and are puzzled about why so many people, who do not even go off the road, buy them. For all of you who still own a standard sized 2 wheel drive car, try these exercises. Buy a roll-top desk and try to get it home. Take 6 kids and all of their sports equipment to the baseball field. Drive all of your construction tools to work with you in a snow storm. Jump in the car and go into snow country for a day of skiing. Take 20 boxes of stuff over to a friends house. These exercises in a regular car will require tire chains, several trips, and in the case of the roll-top desk, the rental of a truck or trailer to carry it.
The name "Sport Utility Vehicles" reveals the true value of these vehicles. The have many uses ("utility") and yet can be driven off the road or in the snow ("sports") without stopping to put on tire chains. The next time you need to buy a new vehicle, think back about all the times you were in some hassle about getting something moved from one place to another. Or think about yourself along the side of the road putting on tire chains while others are driving right by!
If you never take your SUV off the highway for a 4 wheel drive adventure, you still have one of the best vehicles for all around summer and wintertime use.
