|Topic: Working Under Your SUV|
need to work under your SUV, a good solution for getting the vehicle
high enough to get underneath is a pair of ramps as shown in the yellow
circles in the photo at the top. Drive your SUV slowly up the ramps (you
may find it easier if you put it in 4wd). When your SUV is on the ramp
securely, set the parking brake hard and place the transmission in park.
Then place blocks behind and in front of one of the wheels on the
opposite side as added protection against the vehicle rolling.
Note the red circle in the upper photo and the yellow square in the bottom photograph. This is a jack stand that is placed under a frame member of the vehicle as a second source of support in the unlikely event that one of the ramps collapses.
You may also use a jack like the floor jack shown in the lower photograph as a second source of support.
WARNING: Always assure that your SUV is properly supported underneath from at least two separate support sources before you get underneath the vehicle. Serious injury or death will result if the vehicle slips from the jack while you are beneath the vehicle.
