Before you ever take your SUV off the road it is important that you become familiar with changing a tire on your particular vehicle. Start with your owners manual and turn to the tire changing section.

We want you to actually change one of your tires to the spare tire right in your driveway or garage so that you can be sure all the jack parts are present and working properly. You will be really stuck if you have a flat tire off the road and are missing parts or do not know how to change a tire!

By the way, flat tires are actually fairly rare off the road. Most SUV's have tough tires; in 100,000 miles of off road driving, we have had only one flat tire and that happened when a hunter shot at a deer standing near our SUV and hit the tire instead!

Some SUV's have the spare located inside the vehicle. Others have it mounted on the outside rear (photo below). Many spare tires are located under the rear of the vehicle (photo at top).
